We are now calling for nominations for the Akabori Memorial Award 2024, in honor of the late Professor Shiro Akabori, one of the founders of peptide and protein science in Japan. This award is conferred upon a scientist, who has made significant contributions to the advancement of research in peptide science worldwide. Please send a set of the relevant documents by June 30th, 2024 (Japan Standard Time). It is required for the recipient of the Akabori Memorial Award 2024 not only to give his/her Award Lecture at the 61st Japanese Peptide Symposium, which will be held in Nagoya, Japan, from October 29th to 31st in 2024 but also to submit his/her article for the Peptide Newsletter Japan.


The JPS administers the Akabori Memorial Award in accordance with Statutes 3.4.

Akabori Memorial Award

  1. The Akabori Memorial Award is presented in commemoration of Professor Shiro Akabori‘s outstanding contributions to peptide science. The award is given to scientists who have made outstanding contributions in the development in the world of peptide science.
  2. A certificate and medal are presented to the awardee.
  3. The Award is presented every two years to one single awardee.
  4. The chair of the nominating committee shall be appointed by the Board of the JPS. The chair organizes the committee for evaluating the nominations.
  5. The president of the JPS consults with the nominating committee and together with the Board of the JPS decides the Awardee.
  6. The Award is given during the Japanese Peptide Symposium of the selection year.
  7. Revisions of the regulations are made based on the decision of the Board of JPS.
  • This regulation is effective from 1st April, 2020.
  • The amended regulation is effective from 1st May, 2024.

Please prepare following documents in PDF and send them by E-mail.

  1. A brief statement of nomination (no more than 1,000 words).
  2. The nominee’s Curriculum Vitae and List of Publications.
  3. One additional recommendation letter in support for the nominee.
  4. No more than 5 selected reprints (PDF files).

✽ Each nominator may propose only one candidate for the Award.
